Application to Secondary 2024​​

National Offer Day for Secondary 2024 is 1st March 2024. Emails and letters will be sent on the day and you can also login to your online account to view your offeron Friday​ 1st March 2024.

(Offer emails will be sent during normal office hours. For those who applied by paper form, letters will be posted on 1st March and may take a few days to arrive)

If you haven’t applied already, please complete the Late Secondary 2024 Application Form. If you have applied and wish to submit a new preference, please email schooladmissions@halton.gov.uk with your child’s name, date of birth and the new preference school(s). All new preferences received by 10th March 2024 will be considered together and outcomes will be communicated by post following the outcome (please allow 10 days for the letter to reach you). You may find it useful to look at the Secondary 2024 Summary for information regarding vacancies before submitting new preferences.

Application to Primary 2024

National Offer Day for Primary 2024 is 16th April 2024.

If you applied online using the Parent Portal, you will receive an email during normal office hours and you can also login to your online account to view your offer from 00.01 on 16th April 2024

If you applied by paper form you will receive a letter a few days after this date, you will not receive the offer by email. Letters will be posted on 16th April, second class.

If you haven’t applied already, please complete the Late Primary 2024 Application Form. If you have applied and wish to submit a new preference, please email schooladmissions@halton.gov.uk with your child’s name, date of birth and the new preference school(s). All new preferences received by 28th April 2024 will be considered together and outcomes will be communicated week commencing 29th April 2024. Please allow 10 working days to receive your letter. Please note, a maximum of three preferences can be held for each child, therefore you may be required to withdraw a preference if you have already reached this maximum. You may find it useful to look at vacancy information on our summary sheet before submitting a new preference.

Requests to educate outside of normal age group

For parents of summer-born children (those born between April 1st and August 31st), wishing to make a formal request to educate their child outside of their normal age group (i.e. they start Reception class in 2025 instead of 2024), please complete and return this Defer Primary Application form to schooladmissions@halton.gov.uk before the deadline of 15th January 2024. You should read the DfE guidance Summer Born Children: Starting School – Advice for Parents before making your decision.

Your preference school(s) will be contacted and a decision will be made in the best interests of the child at the earliest opportunity.​


PREPARING YOUR CHILD FOR SCHOOL

To help you in getting your child ready for school Halton has an Early Years Strategy and has also prepared a booklet with guidance on how to prepare your child for school and how to get support from birth up to five years old, The Early Years Newborn to 5 Years Booklet.

HALTON BOROUGH COUNCIL DETERMINED ADMISSION ARRANGEMENTS AND COORDINATED SCHEMES FOR THE SEPTEMBER 2024

Following consultation, the Council’s Executive Board at the meeting held on 19th January 2023 determined the admission arrangements for community and voluntary controlled schools in Halton, and the Coordinated Schemes for both Primary and Secondary schools for the September 2024 intake which apply to all primary and secondary schools in Halton.

Should you wish to object to the arrangements, objections must be made to the Office of the Schools Adjudicator by 15th May 2023. A link to the OSA website is here: Office of the Schools Adjudicator.

HALTON BOROUGH COUNCIL DETERMINED ADMISSION ARRANGEMENTS AND CO-ORDINATED SCHEMES FOR THE ​ SEPTEMBER 2023 INTAKE

Following statutory consultation that ran from 1st October to 12th November 2021 the Council’s Executive Board approved the proposed admission arrangements for LA maintained community and voluntary controlled primary schools and co-ordinated admissions scheme for all Halton primary schools for the September 2023 intake, together with the co-ordinated admissions scheme for all Halton secondary schools for the September 2023 intake, at the meeting held on 20th January 2022. If anyone wishes to object to the arrangements those objections must made to the Schools Adjudicator by 15 May 2022. A link to the OSA website is here: OSA

Statutory Consultation – September 2025 School Admissions Intake

As statutorily required. The LA is consulting on its proposed admissions criteria for community and voluntary controlled schools for the September 2025 intake, together with the Proposed Coordinated Admissions Schemes for both Primary intakes and Secondary Intakes for the September 2025 admissions round.

The coordinated schemes, following consultation and approval by the Council’s Executive Board, will then apply to all Halton schools (community, voluntary controlled, voluntary aided, and academy schools) for the September 2025 intake. Please be aware that own authority schools (voluntary aided and academy schools) may also be consulting on their own admissions arrangements for the September 2025 intake, so please visit the school’s own website for those arrangements.

If you wish to comment on the consultation, please submit your response to schooladmissions@halton.gov.uk by no later than 5pm on Friday 10th November 2023. You will not receive an individual response to your consultation response.
