Building a mentally healthier Halton

The aim of our service is to promote positive mental health to improve personal and community wellbeing across Halton. Our work is about changing perceptions and encouraging positive behaviours around healthy mental choices.

This year, we’ll be running a number of high profile campaigns, in partnership with many other local organisations, that will help local people to better manage their mental health and wellbeing. More details of these campaigns and events will follow soon!

We aim to:

  • get people of all ages talking about their mental health as easily as they do about their physical health.
  • help people build resilience to enable them to better manage their mental health.
  • provide training in conjunction with local need.
  • raise awareness of and improve positive mental health.
  • reduce stigma.
  • raise awareness of suicide and self-harm.

In Halton:

  • 1 in 6 people have a mental health problem at any one time
  • 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem in a year
  • 1 in 3 visits to a GP are about mental health

Maintaining good mental health and wellbeing is important because it influences how you think and feel about yourself as well as others.

Your mental health can also affect how you deal with everyday life events, such as relationships and coping with change.

Our mental health can affect us in many ways. If you have had any thoughts of ending your life, contact your GP as soon as you can. If your GP surgery is closed when you ring, you will be directed to an out of hours doctor. Your GP is a great source of support and advice and will be able to talk to you about the many treatments there are on offer.


Using the 5 ways to wellbeing model, we have designed the following training:

  • Suicide Prevention Pathway for Halton – 2 hours approx
  • Mental Health Awareness – 2 ½ hours approx

Both training sessions are available free of charge to all residents of Halton and also those working within Halton.

Alternatively we can come and deliver the training to your teams of 10 or more if you can provide a venue.
